Today I will deal with what I call “Crumpy’s Hockey Dress Code”. These rules should be obvious to most, but there are some people out there for what ever reason are not aware of the rules.
The picture to the right shows something that no one should ever do. Even though the picture is pretty much proof that hockey is attracting the NASCAR fan set I still must ask people not to cut the sleeves off your jersey. There is no reason for this. Hockey is played in a building with ice on the floor and for the most part it is played during the winter. You don’t need a tank top jersey.
Another thing that annoys me is wearing a team’s jersey that is not playing in the game. This is something that really pisses me off. I don’t care that you like Buffalo. They are not playing. To me that is like asking Ovi to sign a picture of Crosby. It is something that you shouldn’t do.
There are two exceptions to this rule. If you wear a jersey of a minor league affiliate of the team you are watching that is fine. I myself want an Aucoin Hersey Bears jersey and will get one when I can find it online. The second exception if you wear a jersey of a team that moved to another city if you wear it in the city they moved to. For example, feel free to rock out in a North Star jersey to a Dallas Stars game.
Now this one makes me want to choke some people out. Do not get a modern jersey and put a name of a player that never wore that jersey and vise versa. Langway never wore the modern jersey and Backstrom never wore the old jersey. This also feeds into the fact I hate “throw back” jerseys. When a jersey is retired it should be retired forever.
No matter who you think should be Captain, you should not put the “C” on the jersey until that player is made the Captain. I see this guy at the games that has jerseys of a lot of the players and has “Cs” on every one of the jerseys. Maybe he likes the letter “C”, but he shouldn’t be wearing the “C” on the jersey unless he is wearing a Chris Clark jersey.
My final rule is never get “split name” jerseys. What this means is two people get jerseys with a phrase split between them. There are a couple of guys who sit a couple of rows in front of me who have “Unleash The” and “Fury”. The issue with this is you always have to walk with the person who has the other half on the same side or you will look like a dumb ass. For example I saw “Crosby Is” and “A Douche”. While I agree with this statement whole heartily; when you are not with the “Crosby Is” guy, you are just “A Douche”
